WOZ UP: 2016 Year In Review

2016 is about to close out and frankly, it has been quite a different year for myself and here at MXPTV.com. For ones that follow me personally on social media, I have been having a lot of fun with my new pro bowling career and competing in PBA National and Regional events around the country going up against the best bowlers in the world. While that has put me aside from the usual weekend-to-weekend moto grind, it made me reflect and look back at what I have achieved over the past 12 years being at the races. During that time, it got me specifically thinking of the past year. To me, I don’t feel like I’m improving my life or my work now like when I was 18 and jumping around race tracks all over the country in my tall black socks and sandals get ups, backward hats, and whatever fashion sense I tried to pull off to capture the events I covered. Those were some interesting days!

Now, after near a full year of looking back and being fresh into my 30s, I will be going into 2017 in a different direction than the usual. Capturing the elusive crashes and wild battles at the races aren’t what I’m all about anymore moving forward. In the past year, I just haven’t been motivated and, frankly, not fully enjoyed my time at the races. It could be because of different people, riders, or friends these days. It could be that the racing and events aren’t appealing anymore to me as before. It could be many other reasons. The feel, the mood, and the vibe is different. Maybe I’m just getting older and wiser? Overall, my interest in covering races is just about gone. Times and technologies are changing and it’s time to move on to a new challenge looking forward.

Covering races is what I felt I did best these past 12 years. Now it’s time to move on!

Don’t get me wrong! I still enjoy watching races. You will always find me hunkered down at a TV or on my iPhone Saturday nights or Sunday afternoons watching the best in the world go at it and dump my mental thoughts on social media. That’ll never get old. But for me, personally, I don’t see any benefit of having me at the races trying to cover every corner, every rider, and every podium like I have done the past 12 years. It’s no longer what I want to do anymore. My passion to do that type of work is spent. I’ve done so much for tracks and promoters across the country and around the world and I appreciate all the opportunities that came along with those endeavors! But it’s time to start another chapter in my video production career.

It all hit me at the end of summer 2015. Something needed to change and I saw that change around me. (Photo: Mike Vizer)

I have achieved more than I thought I ever would do in this sport covering the races. From my work being published in multi-page local race reports and articles in magazines and newspapers to directing and producing a race show for NBC Sports and from distances starting in the Northeast to my farthest points in Italy and St. Martin in the Caribbean (and winning an award for my DVD series when I started getting in the mix), I have done quite a bit these past 12 years. It’s just time to move on as I have achieved all I wanted to do at the races.

I achieved all of my goals at the races including ones I didn’t even think was possible, like producing and directing a web pre-race show for NBC Sports during the 2015 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross season. (Photo: Brian Converse)

This doesn’t mean I’m leaving the sport or any of that. Motocross, supercross, supermoto, and off-road motorcycling overall have done SO MUCH for me over the years. Your support of MXPTV and my work surpasses anything I would ever expect. This includes the dozens of advertisers who decided to be a part of making MXPTV what it is today and I can’t thank enough the companies that have supported MXPTV.com over the years. To meet my viewers and hear the compliments and criticisms (both constructive and just downright negative at times), it’s been aspiring to me to keep going to the races and capture great content for you to check out over the years. But I believe for myself, it’s time to shift to another area of my video work I very rarely make a move to. And that is to produce human interest stories that attract more than any crash, battle, or music video I’ve made in the past.

Being a fan of this sport will never leave me. Being around the best in the world is a privilege not many get to experience. And it still is awesome! (Photo: Jean-Pierre Jacques)

I will be venturing into a new project I’m starting up for 2017 called “FOCUS”. FOCUS is a new documentary-style, human interest storytelling series that dives deeper into the lifestyles of some of the most motivating and captivating people in motorcycling. These people range from individuals who are the fastest riders in the world, top up and coming amateurs, wildest and craziest personalities, inspired entry-level athletes, and some of the industry’s most notable faces and names. I’ve met many, many people across all sports over the past 12 years. Everyone has a story and I want to deliver those stories to you in my award-winning quality that has been seen on MXPTV for years. But there’s a catch.

FOCUS will be a subscription-based video-on-demand (VOD) platform offering low monthly or yearly rates to watch all episodes (ad-free) including behind the scenes features and extra video and photo content you can only see as a subscriber. I also plan to do monthly giveaways for my subscribers that include products, free subscriptions, t-shirts, and more down the road. It will be a new and valuable way to experience my content but also enjoy the stories being told in the FOCUS episodes. Keep in mind, your subscription will help assist the production costs of future episodes and with that, you can interact with me on who you would like to see be featured in a future FOCUS episode.

I’d like to introduce FOCUS – my new project to bring you in-depth storytelling and bench racing documentaries from the best in the sport.

As for MXPTV, it will still be around directing its content to its strong social media presence on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and our popular YouTube channel. The website (MXPTV.com), however, will slowly transform into the new home of the FOCUS series with updates on future episodes, signing up for our newsletter, and access to new or past episodes. MXPTV has a large following on social media that I will continue to fuel those outlets with photo and video content that you already continually enjoy as you have in the past. I will still be available for private shoots and projects as always!

MXPTV will still be around as the title of my video production company. But I’ll be directing its vivid content entirely toward its popular social media spots!

FOCUS has the large potential to open up many opportunities and goals for myself that I want to achieve to help improve my craft. It’s a fresh start for myself after a dozen years of achieving my highest goals in the trenches at the races. More importantly for you, the viewer, you will experience stories that will hopefully motivate, inspire, and illuminate your daily lives and maybe even change your original view or perspective of the person. Everyone has a story to how they got to where they are today!

Shifting from race coverage to personal in-depth storytelling is my new challenge for 2017 and beyond.

For 2017 and beyond, I hope you will continue to support my video work as I branch off the normal road to this new endeavor with FOCUS. The first episodes will be slowly hitting the web over the course of the next couple of months and ramp up when the Spring season hits and the moto scene awakes more from its winter hibernation here in the Northeast. For updates, follow @MXPTV on social media or here at MXPTV.com. THANK YOU for your continuing support!

You can gain early access now to FOCUS by subscribing today starting at a special introductory rate at $2.99 per month or $29.99 per year. This will gain access to an introduction series of short videos of myself talking about what’s to come at FOCUS (currently in production now), all future packaged episodes, behind the scenes podcasts and videos, photo galleries, forum access, and much more that is currently in the works! I’m ready to tackle 2017 in a much different way. Thank you for your continuing support!
