DAYTONA (March 14, 2011) – Scott Powersports/Triple J Racing/DR.D/Pit Posse/Monster Energy’s Johnny Lewis came into the 2011 Harley-Davidson Insurance AMA Pro Flat Track series with expectations to get on the podium and battle for the win after competing in his first full season last year. Heading into Daytona Bike Week, Lewis made improvements in his program and added new sponsors. It paid off at the opening round at the Daytona Short Track when he battled for the lead and finished on the podium with a career-best second place finish. Lewis backed that up the next night with another second place.
Lewis traveled to Daytona with his Scott Powersports’ Honda CRF450R, a bike he raced in the AMA Pro Flat Track Singles events last season. On Thursday, March 10 his comfort level with the bike and the track showed as he recorded the fastest time during the afternoon qualifying at the track that sits outside turns one and two at the famed Daytona International Speedway.
After a break in the day before the night program in front of a large crowd, Lewis threw on his AXO gear and Arai helmet to head out to the track for his heat race. Sitting on pole for the heat with the fastest time, he got the holeshot and would lead the field the entire way, finding that the quickest line around the track was the inside which not many other riders were taking. Lewis recorded the fastest heat time – courtesy of his Scott Powersports-tuned Honda with a DR.D exhaust – of all three heat races which placed him on the pole for the 25-lap main event.
Before the main event, Lewis and five other top heat race finishers lined up for the four-lap Dash for Cash. While battling for the lead, Lewis went sideways and crashed. He pulled off the track with a sore ankle. However, Lewis was not giving up and would not allow the ankle to determine the rest of his night and possibly the season.
On the pole for the first AMA Pro Flat Track main event of the year, Lewis got a great start off the line. He battled for one of the top three spots. At one point in the race, Lewis was running in third as the top three riders were within one second of each other. Lewis made a move on the defending Grand National Champion Jake Johnson to get into second. He pushed his bike hard and took advantage of his creative inside line to be on the rear tire of the leader. At the checkers, it was Sammy Halbert followed by the Monster Energy athlete Lewis by only two-tenths of a second.
Lewis earned his first career podium finish in AMA Pro Flat Track at the Daytona opener. His best AMA Pro Flat Track finish previously was a fourth. He had been on the podium and won a race during his time as an AMA Pro Supermoto racer.
“I knew all day I had the fastest line out there and my Scott Powersports bike was rocking that track,” said Lewis who wears national number ten. “After the fastest-time heat race I was looking for a podium finish in the main. When that crash happened in the Dash for Cash I took a breath and told myself to focus on the race and deal with the ankle later. Racing is 90-percent mental. It worked out since I put myself in the lead trio in the main. I’m excited for the podium and to be up on the box as a thank you to Mike Scott of Scott Powersports for standing behind me for the past three years.”
After the excitement from his first podium, Lewis got some rest and iced his ankle. He was ready for the AMA Pro Flat Track second round at the Daytona Short Track the very next night on Friday, March 11. In practice, Lewis again recorded the fastest lap even on that injured ankle. In afternoon qualifying, Lewis notched the fourth-fastest time. That would place him in heat race number three.
In the heat race, Lewis bulleted from the start and led to the finish again honing that inside line during the entire race. With superb suspension compliments of Penske Racing Shocks, this finish placed him once again in the Dash for Cash. Lewis was ready to fight for the win but not sacrifice his main event. He ended up finishing fourth in the four-lap dash.
Scott Powersports’ Lewis was set for the round two main, sitting second on the front row one spot from pole. He nailed a good start on his Honda CRF450R with the DR.D exhaust and Pit Posse/Outlaw handlebars and controls. Lewis was hanging it out in fourth waiting for an opportunity or a mistake from other riders who began to stretch the field. He was several seconds back of the lead trio though he was not going to settle for fourth. Soon, Lewis made up time on the defending champ in third place and nabbed him. Then, within two laps he got into second. The leader was too far gone by that point to make up the gap. Again, Lewis stepped onto the second-place box on the podium at the Daytona Short Track.
“It really showed tonight which riders had this track dialed-in the past two nights,” said Lewis. “I saw the big gap between me and third place. I was going to use my lines to close it. I didn’t think at all about my ankle during the race. I was completely focused on my riding and moving up the field. This is awesome to have two straight second places. I know from these races that I can battle for the win this season.”
With the two finishes, Lewis sits second in the 2011 AMA Grand National Championship points with 40.
Lewis added, “These two finishes are dedicated to my wife Alysha, my parents, the Scott Powersports crew and all my sponsors, many that came with me from supermoto to flat track. They have been with me for the long haul and I appreciate every one of you. I’ll get the ankle checked out and be ready for the third round next month in Illinois.”
Race fans make sure to head to the DuQuoin Short Track at the Southern Illinois Center in DuQuoin, Illinois on Saturday, April 16. Stop by the Scott Powersports pit to meet Lewis, enter his Kicker Audio fan drawing and get an autographed poster, and then watch him on the short track riding his Scott Powersports/Triple J Racing/DR.D/Pit Posse/Monster Energy Honda CRF450R in his AXO gear. There has been some progress so far with GPMX’s own Greg Pamart and Joey Peters on their search for his missing van, motorcross bikes, trailer, and much, much more. Here are some updates so far:
Greg’s van has been found and is currently an impound last we checked when this photo was taken on Monday.
Greg made an appearance on a local Atlanta news show talking about the bikes that were stolen. Click the link below to watch the segment:
Atlanta WSBTV/Channel 2 Segment
Around noon today (Wednesday), Greg snapped a photo of Joey Peters’ YZ250F laying over in the back of someone’s pickup truck. Just as Greg called the authorities, they lost the truck and the bike. Such a close call to retrieving one of the bikes.
Lieutenant Janet Brady of the Atlanta Police Department posted up all 16 bikes plus 4 missing vehicles to all of its officers hoping to get the cops on the right track and searching for the stolen items.
One of Greg’s Facebook friends, Colin Mellot, has been keeping close track and offering tips on the search on Greg’s Facebook profile. Everyone is doing all they can to help Greg and Joey get their bikes and van back through social networking like Facebook.
Dick Sidle of Lebanon Valley Cycles has started a benefit raffle on the District 6 message board for Greg as companies such as Lebanon Valley Cycles, AMS, Black Heart MX, Gap Racing, and many others chipping in to help Greg with gear, gas, graphics, a starting gate, and even a generator as of some of the items offered so far by the MX community. They will be holding a special raffle for Greg at Sleepy Hollow’s first race on March 13th. CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFORMATION ON THIS RAFFLE.
As you can see, many of the motocross community is coming out to help and search for Greg Pamart and Joey Peters’ bikes, van, trailer, and other items. If you know of any leads or information that can be helpful during this search, leave a post on MXPTV’s Facebook page or shoot MXPTV an email at info@mxptv.com. The search continues….
Check out to see who faired out well in qualifying today at the Gerogia Dome this afternoon and see who made the night show or not for tonight’s event.
Remember! Speed will be airing the race live tonight at 7:30pm tonight!
Note: The top 40 make it in the night program.

PEORIA, ILL. (August 25, 2010) – Scott Powersports/DR.D/Pit Posse/Monster Energy’s Johnny Lewis went to the historic Peoria TT with a goal to improve on his two previous starts there. He earned a fifth place finish which is his best TT finish in the entire series and his only main event finish at Peoria in the AMA Pro K&N Filters Grand National Championship (GNC) presented by Motorcycle-Superstore.com. The Sunday, August 22 race at the Peoria Race Park in Peoria, Illinois was not without drama though.
Peoria is one of the season’s most attended AMA Pro GNC Flat Track races. The combination of a dirt track with flat turns and big jumps makes for some exciting action. Fans can watch on the grassy hillside as the competitors fly into the air on the hard packed jumps. Racers received points towards the AMA Pro GNC Singles Championship and the overall AMA Pro GNC series.
Lewis showed up in Peoria with his Scott Powersports’ Honda CRF450R where he ran three practices. He qualified in sixth. On the cool down lap, the motor suddenly blew up. Lewis had to push his bike into the pit area. He took his ONE Industries race gear off, throwing on his street clothes as now he figured he would stand on the sidelines watching his fellow AMA Pro GNC racers. Lewis had no backup race bike with him, so he figured his day was done.
Lewis’ luck changed as he shares, “AMA Pro national number 87 Michael Kirkness of Australia was walking by and asked why I was out of my race gear. I told him my bike was broke. Mick jokingly said that I could use his backup bike. I quickly took his offer. Mick and I are currently fighting for a top ten in the overall championship points so it was a shock for him to make the offer. Goes to show what a cool guy he is and how awesome our sport is when something happens.”
Lewis lined up for the heat race on Kirkness’ Suzuki RM-Z450 without riding it before. He quickly adapted and finished second in the heat, transferring directly to the main event. His one race sponsor, Kirkness finished third in his heat race, also transferring directly to the main.
In the Dash for Cash, where it pits the top two from each heat race to compete for cash and extra series points, Lewis finished sixth. Since Jake Johnson was disqualified, Lewis moved up to fifth to earn one extra, valuable point in the championship.
Lewis on the Suzuki was the fifth rider to pick his gate position. In the 25-lap main, he slingshot to second place on the start. On the long front straight, Lewis was passed which pushed him back to third. He ran in third place until around lap 15 when he began to battle with Johnson. Then both Lewis and Johnson got passed, pushing Lewis back to fifth where he would finish.
Lewis best AMA Pro GNC TT race finish was seventh at the Springfield TT. He added, “Without Mick loaning his backup bike and my crew stepping up, this would not be possible. I gained some points and amped to have my best Peoria finish! We’re back at the shop this week and getting the bikes ready for the next race, the Indy Mile.”
Lewis sits ninth overall with 82 points in the overall AMA Pro GNC series. In the AMA Pro GNC Singles Championship, he is in sixth with 68 points.
The next stop on the AMA Pro K&N Filters Grand National Championship presented by Motorcycle-Superstore.com will be the Indy Mile this Saturday, August 28 at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis. This is a GNC Twins race where Lewis will be on his #10 white and red custom Scott Powersports’ Kawasaki 650 flat-tracker. Stop by his pit area to pick up a custom Johnny Lewis poster by Axis Designs. Keep posted to Lewis on Twitter at www.twitter.com/johnnylewis21 and visit his website at www.johnnylewis.org. You may also “friend” him on Facebook by searching under “Johnny Lewis.”

Many of the Northeast’s top racers have been training rigorously the past month at either training facilities to local tracks to the gym and all over just to get ready for the extreme heat and humidity that is always a common occurrence at the ranch. Let’s take a look at all of the names coming into Loretta’s from the Northeast region.

MXPTV has learned recently that Geico Powersports/Honda rider Justin Barcia was asked to leave the Millsaps Training Facility, which has been his home place to ride and train for the past 5 years ever since Justin was on a KTM 85s. Justin was welcomed to MTF with open arms when he was a young, quick amateur making ground and brewing his quick speed and style. But due to a recent podium interview after his 2nd moto at Spring Creek last weekend, Justin has been asked to leave the facility and no longer ride/train there again. Justin mentioned Gary Bailey on podium, who also has worked with Justin in the past, and thought nothing of it while saying that on the podium to just thank a past trainer/mentor for his success. Justin was asked the next day when he came to the facility to clean out his locker and get out. Many fans and people in the industry know that Justin has thanked MTF many, many times for his success. But according to Justin’s mother, Lorraine, the move was surprising.
Over the phone, Lorraine mentioned that the move was surprising but they are taking it very easily as they see this is a refresher for Justin and a different direction than they had been taking the past 5 years. ”Justin is fine about all of this. We are riding at GPF at times and also at the local tracks around here so he can keep riding.”, stated Lorraine. ”We’ll have to pay the $30-$35 to ride but at least he’s riding.” Could there have been some jealousy and backdoor action happening recently behind Justin riding and training at the facility? We may never know.
If the Barcia’s can’t find a stable place to train and ride in time for supercross season, Lorraine mentioned that they will have to live in California and ride at Honda’s test track and maybe some others in the area to get Justin ready for the indoors. But overall, the Barcia’s are still riding and training….just not at their usual spot.
