MXPTV decided to spend its Easter weekend at the motocross track covering the racing action from Race 3 of the 2011 MAMA Series at Budds Creek. Â Over 500+ showed up for a fun-filled weekend with Easter egg hunts, basket giveaways, and many other prizes as well as some fast talent at Budds! Â Check out the riders that stood out over the weekend!
Maryland’s Tony Archer has stood out as the top Maryland pro as of recent with qualifying for a couple of nationals last year in the 250 class. Â At his home track at Budds Creek, Archer was unstoppable sweeping the 250 and Open A classes with almost too much ease. Â For 2011, Archer is planning on running the entire Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship series from Hangtown to Pala in the 250 class. Â Keep an eye out for the #285 at a national near you!
Maryland’s Scott Clark has been on the MAMA scene ever since he threw a leg over a dirt bike. Â At Budds Creek, Clark scored his 3rd perfect sweep in the Schoolboy 1 (12-16) class so far this year in MAMA as well as following it up with a 2nd in the new Unlimited class as well as 4th in Collegeboy (14-24). Â Clark is looking better than ever this year thanks to some extensive training off the track with All For Your Fitness’ Randy Holsapple.
West Virginia native Brandon Garlock made a surprising showing at Budds Creek and showed a ton of speed that got people asking me “Who’s that?” all weekend long. Â Garlock comes out of MDRA program and looked very fast despite being on a now-extinct Honda CR125. Â Garlock impressed a ton of people with his dominating win in the 250 B class over 37 other riders. Â His lap times were at least 3-5 seconds faster than 2nd place each moto against all the 250f machines out there. Â (EDIT: Pat Brady was three tenths of a second off Brandon’s fastest time, which was the closest anyone got to him in 250 B.) Â His CR125 also grabbed him a 2nd place finish behind Scott Clark in Schoolboy 1 and had his Honda CRF150 pull a dominating sweep in the Super Mini (12-16) class as well.
Accurate Pest Control’s Shelby Benson is stepping up this year in the Mini Women Support 7-15 class in MAMA as she grabbed his 2nd overall win of the year with a 1-1 sweep. Â Benson is looking to qualify for the Girls (9-11) class at Loretta Lynn’s this year and she’s been training and riding more than ever. Â Keep an eye out for the #8!
Maryland’s Austin Toskov spent years on the mini bikes now that he has switched fully to the big bikes, he’s another rider stepping it up this year. Â Toskov has been the dominant rider in the Schoolboy (14-16) 4 Stroke class in MAMA with 3 perfect sweeps after Budds Creek. Â Toskov’s speed is improving on the big bikes as he focuses on the Schoolboy classes for 2011. Â Toskov also followed up with a 2nd place overall finish in Collegeboy (14-24) behind Delaware’s Steven Wilson.
Maryland’s Justin Rodbell has made the Top Riders list once again with the most dominating performance at Budds Creek with another 3 class sweep in the Junior Mini 7-11, 80A 9-11, and 60A classes. Â Rodbell has been perfect in the 16 motos he’s competed in this year in MAMA. Â Will Justin run away with it this year or who will come up and threaten to stop his streak?
Young Kyle Luckett threw up two 2-1 finishes in the 50B and 50 Oil 4-8 A to grab two overall wins on the day at Budds Creek. Â This was Luckett’s first 2 wins of the 2011 MAMA season and stands as the points leader in 50 B and 2nd in the points to fast Mason Naecker in the 50 Oil 4-8 A class. Â This young kid can sure haul the mail up the steep hills at Budds Creek!
