It sure was a hot one in the heart of Freestone County in central Texas last weekend for the second round of the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championships. Â Freestone saw a great day of racing in all 3 classes and MXPTV is going to break down the most impressive rides from Saturday!
TwoTwo Motorsports/Bel-Ray/Honda rider Chad Reed sweeps Freestone and holds a 21 point lead just 2 rounds into the series. Â He was handed a huge gift when Ryan Dungey ran out of fuel at the end of the moto as Dungey was running a very impressive moto gapping Reed. Â Reed is enjoying the fact that he is doing it on his own. Â But the fact that he’s also leading the points and winning 3 out of 4 motos so far has got him smiling quite a bit.
JGR/Muscle Milk/Yamaha rider Davi Millsaps is 3rd in the 450 points! Â That’s something that many didn’t think would happen especially on a new bike and team and having a lackluster supercross season. Â At Hangtown, Millsaps ran very well moving up through the pack and he continued that momentum right into Texas with a 4-2 finish for 2nd overall. Â He’s just 4 points behind Villopoto but we are still very early into the season. Â Anything can happen as we all know!
The South African grabbed his 2nd ever overall win on U.S. soil for the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki team at Freestone. Â Much like how Baggett was at Hangtown, Rattray moved his way up through the field both motos and was able to track down then 2nd moto leader Justin Barcia and get by him for the moto and overall win. Â And where was the other overall win Tyla had on U.S. soil? Â Well…that’s the next stop of the outdoor series.
After a serious back injury that had him out for over a year, Troy Lee Designs/Lucas Oil/Honda rider Christian Craig showed that he can be a serious contender in the 450 class after so-so performances in the 250s. Â There are riders out there who don’t get accustomed to the 250 machine and do better on the 450. Â Craig is one of those riders and his holeshot and leading the first half of the first moto said a lot of what he’s capable on a 450. Â Will we see more of that throughout the season?
Got to show some Northeast love here for Jimmy Weinert Training Facility/South Of The Border’s Seth Rarick as he earned his first national point at Freestone getting a 20th in 1st 450 moto. Â Rarick has been on his game after years of injuries and is happy to be doing well in his first 2 professional races. Â Seth is looking forward to going back east where he knows the tracks he’s going up against.
DNA Shred Stix/Star Racing/Yamaha’s Kyle Cunningham has had an impressive season so far showing blazing speed in supercross as well as the outdoors. Â Cunningham was on his home turf and finished up 3-4 for 3rd overall, his best finish at an outdoor national round. Â Keep an eye out for the #35 at High Point. Â He’s smelling an overall win sometime soon.
Amercian Honda’s Ashley Fiolek is back and brought down the house with her first overall win of the WMX season topping defending champion Jessica Patterson, after she had a mishap in moto 1. Â Fiolek controls the points lead by 8 going into their next round later this month at Thunder Valley on June 25. Â It’s going to be tight between Patterson and Fiolek this whole season and points are going to be crucial for these 2 super fast ladies.
