Welcome to a late edition of Woz Up coming to you from a sketchy hotel room in Portland, Oregon. First off, thoughts go out to the people involved in the Colorado theater shooting at midnight during a screening of the new Batman movie. Such a horrible and frightening scene it must have been.
(Enter rough segway….)
Yeap, this is my first dive into the Northwest region of the United States and so far, the experience has been awesome. After my arrival home from 2 weeks on the road at Red Bud and Millville along with photog Matt Rice, I was in Delaware for a little over the day before heading out on a 5AM flight to Portland for this weekend’s Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship round at Washougal MX Park in Washougal, WA. It has been a blurry week with coming home after those 2 weeks on the road and right back out. Now, I’m in the Northwest and still doing what I love!

I was in Chicago just last weekend!

Driving back home….for a little bit.
My arrival in the Northwest started with a trip to the Mount St. Helens volcano located an hour north of Washougal. The volcano has always been an interest of mine so it was very cool to see it up close. I ended up only seeing the south side of the mountain as I didn’t have the time to visit the more noticed north side, which features the mile wide crater from the famous 1980 eruption. While I was filming away breaking in my new Panasonic camera, I caught an amazing sight off camera. It was a really cloudy day high up in the Cascades and as I was filming a former lava river canyon, I noticed the mountain itself, originally blocked by the clouds, appear from those clouds and my reaction was speechless. A huge, huge, HUGE snow capped mountain appeared from the clouds and it was surely a priceless moment well worth the trip! Check out some images of Mount St. Helens below:

The road to Mount St. Helens was a dark and cloudy one for sure!
With the destruction of the massive 1980 eruption, the area of Mount St. Helens is back and fresh of life.

It was a great way to break in the new video camera this weekend!
By the way, the mountain is considered as an active volcano. So to be on the foot of an active volcano is something you don’t get to do every day.
On Thursday night, I, along with Jessica Patterson and her fiance/mechanic Eddie Ray, checked out the Thursday Night Motocross race at Portland International Raceway in Oregon. This event has always been a big one before the Washougal national each year. The crowd was huge as it reminded me of the Marshfield fair race held in Massachusetts before the Southwick national. The fans were all into the race action especially for the 20 lap pro main event, which was won by Weston Peick, who has been without a ride outdoors this year and will be lining up to prove himself more at Washougal tomorrow. The MotoConcepts team riders of Jake Canada and Vince Friese also lined up as Canada kept Peick honest in the main event keeping close on his little 250 machine against the massive Peick and his 450. Check out some Instagrams from the night below:

Right out of the first turn, check out this litter of whoops at PIR!

Some stormy weather moved on in that provided some wicked sunset shots at PIR.

A big crowd showed up during the pro main event at PIR.
I also released my press day video from Washougal yesterday. Check it out below:

Will an injured but improving Jessica Patterson hold onto the red plate after Washougal?
I leave you with some yummy Washougal Instagrams:
