A look back at the past week at MXPTV with this week's edition of Woz Up!

Welcome to this week’s edition of Woz Up! It was a fun week last week bouncing around the Carolinas. I ended up in North Carolina a little bit longer as expected as my brother, Tyler, and my dad decided to come down to practice at the North Carolina Motorsports Park in Henderson Saturday morning. Almost 30 minutes away from the track, they had truck problems that forced them to fall short of NCMP. But no need to fear! I came to the rescue and loaded everything they had into my little Ranger and made it to NCMP for a full day of practice. After figuring out what we were doing with the broken down truck, we decided to stay an extra night and ride all day Sunday at NCMP once again. We ended up leaving the truck with Mark of NCMP to have a local mechanic take care of it. Unfortunately, the mechanic wasn’t able to fix it and as I type this, my dad and brother are headed back for another 6 hour drive in a friend’s truck and tow trailer. Hopefully, everything goes smooth with the truck in bringing it back home.

Tyler's truck just fell short of NCMP so I came in and saved the day!

Coming back home, it was time to focus on putting together the footage I shot from my stops at Club MX and Jimmy Weinert’s new training facility. The way I shot the videos was different than usual as my main camera is out getting its yearly cleaning. I shot the videos with my Canon 60D setup, which I’ve only done once (maybe twice) with a full music video in motocross. So, it was more of a chance to experiment with the camera during the week. Both videos came together really well I thought and it showed in the comments and stats that has came in the past few days. The song for the Club MX video has been sitting in my music archive for almost a year. I visited Club MX for the first time around this time last year and shortly after I did a video from there, I first listened to that song and immediately said to myself that I’m using that song the next time I come back there. So, it was a year in the waiting for that tune! Check out both videos below if you haven’t checked them out yet:

Now, people have asked on YouTube and other social media sites about me doing more of these types of videos. Believe me. If I could do videos like this every week (hell, even every day), I would do it! But there is a cost and scheduling hurdle with each of these types of shoots. I don’t make much at all doing these shoots compared to the races I cover. At races, people will show up on that certain date or weekend with no scheduling issue but you can’t just pull people off the track to hit some huge tabletop over and over. At a freeride/OP shoot, you almost don’t know who’s going to show up and sometimes, the riders you want there don’t show up for some reason and it can get annoying after awhile. But hopefully, with the growth of MXPTV these days, the riders will show up and show off their skills for my cameras! But overall, you will see more open practice/freeride videos this year. I promise you that. (And if any companies want to sponsor/support those videos, hit the Contact link at the top of the page!) So, I’ll put it out there. If you know how to get ‘er done on 2 or even 4 wheels and got an insane place for me to shoot at, let me know and we’ll see if we can make it happen. (Of course, keep it Northeast/east coast friendly unless you want to cover my plane tickets!)

After over a decade of the same, old look, the MAMA organization needed a website revamp badly going into the 2012 season. Since I do websites such as the one you are checking out now, Ken Laurie, president of MAMA, asked me if I was interested in taking over their new site design with a fresh look for 2012. I jumped at it with creative ideas and it call came together a couple of days ago after months of back and forth with changes, additions, and deletions to the new layout. The site has been the same since I first visited their site back in my racing days around 2000/2001 and it’s finally great to see a new, modern look to their website. CLICK HERE to check out MAMA’s new 2012 look!

I also posted photos that I shot from this past Saturday’s OP at NCMP. CLICK HERE to check out the photos!

While at NCMP last Saturday, I dusted off the GoPro camera and threw it atop my brother’s helmet as he threw down laps at NCMP’s main MX and SX tracks. The MX track is hard pack and fast that’s for sure but the SX track is a very tamed down layout that is fun for most bike sizes and ages. Check them out below:

Check out a new feature this week that I’ll throw up here on MXPTV more once the races start getting into gear and that’s the new “In Depth” feature. This new feature takes a, well, in depth look into the bikes ridden by the top riders in the region/nation. I posted the first In Depth yesterday of Tyler Wozney’s economical 2000 Honda CR250 two stroke machine. Click here to check out the bike!

Coming up next week at MXPTV, I visit the 454 Factory Winter Camp session in southern Maryland to check out what Virginia pro Randall Everett is up to with his revolutionary motocross schools and camps. Also, I take a look back at the 2011 season and look forward to what’s in store for 2012 here at MXPTV with a Year In Review feature and the list of the top 20 most viewed videos from the 2011 year.

That will do for this week’s Woz Up. Thanks for reading along.

Bel-Ray Racing-Weekend Racing Preview – February 3, 2012

The 2012 Monster Energy Supercross series will make its second appearance of the season at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California on Saturday, February 4th.

TwoTwo Motorsports/Bel-Ray Racing’s Chad Reed is well on his way to another Supercross championship. With three podium finishes in the first four events, as a veteran to the sport, he understands that consistency wins championships. Reed’s #22 Honda will wear the red plate this weekend instead of the standard white background, a symbol of the current points leader.

The Dodge/Hart & Huntington/Sycuan Casino/Bel-Ray Racing team will return to Anaheim in what is being said to be the most competitive season in recent history. Josh Hansen continues to build on his results each week after his fourth top 10 finish last weekend in Oakland. Fully recovered from his crash last week, Kyle Partridge, is looking to improve on his 20th place finish.

Team Rockstar Energy Racing Suzuki’s Martin Davalos and Jason Anderson battled for part of the main event last weekend, and hope to continue that rivalry this weekend. Both riders showed promise in last week’s main event, but are looking for breakout rides when the gate drops on Saturday night.

You can see Saturday night’s 450 action on CBS, Sunday at 12pm EST, followed by Lites class racing at 1:00pm EST on SPEED. Check your local listings for more information.

MXPTV takes a look into Delaware pro Tyler Wozney's PR2-prepped Honda CR250 two stroke machine.

MXPTV takes a look into Delaware pro Tyler Wozney’s PR2-prepped Honda CR250 two stroke machine. While he has done some local races on this bike, Tyler uses this bike mostly for fun at the practice tracks he goes to. Let’s take a look of the features of this bike:

First thing that catches your eye on this bike is the Black Heart shroud graphics showing off Tyler's motocross school and Bel-Ray, one of Tyler's major sponsors.

The clutch cover may not be the most attractive thing but the full Hinson clutch setup inside is what makes this bike snap at the right time. The motor though is what makes it all happen. PR2 performed a full engine rebuild and jetted it to perfection which makes this bike scream all over the track.

Factory Connection suspension is done throughout the whole bike soaking up what ever jumps and bumps Tyler decides to go for.

Black Heart's Tyler Wozney signature series graphics kit drapes over the Acerbis plastics that had everyone turning heads in the NCMP pits.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (February 1, 2012) – MX Sports Pro Racing and Alli Sports have announced a multi-year agreement with Red Bull, the world’s leading energy drink, to become the “Official Energy Drink of Pro Motocross” for the upcoming Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship, sanctioned by AMA Pro Racing. The partnership will be highlighted by Red Bull title sponsorship at three of the 12 national events this summer — Budds Creek (June 16), RedBud (July 7) and Unadilla (August 18).

“We couldn’t be more proud to welcome Red Bull to the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship,” said MX Sports Pro Racing President Davey Coombs. “Their presence within action sports and motorsports speaks for itself and with their commitment, Pro Motocross is sure to reach new heights this season and beyond.”

In addition to serving as the primary sponsor for the KTM factory team and Troy Lee Designs, Red Bull also supports some of the sport’s most recognizable names, including James Stewart, Ryan Dungey, international superstars Ken Roczen and Marvin Musquin as well as Women’s Motocross athletes Ashley Fiolek and Tarah Geiger.

“Red Bull has been such a big part of motocross for so long that it’s a natural fit for them to partner with Pro Motocross,” said James Stewart, who will make his full-time return to the series since winning all 24 motos en-route to the 2008 championship. “The brand has been a great partner to me personally and I’m really excited that the whole sport will benefit from their involvement.”

Red Bull’s venture into series support presents expanded content and distribution opportunities for Pro Motocross, while also generating a noticeable presence at the races, thanks to its iconic Energy Station that will be present at select rounds of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship. Additionally, the brand’s recognizable “World of Red Bull” image will be felt at each of the season’s 12 events.

“It’s so great that Red Bull will be the official energy drink of Pro Motocross,” said three-time and reigning Women’s Motocross Champion, Ashley Fiolek. “Red Bull’s support and passion for motocross is so strong and I know it will be felt at the races!”

In addition to its on-site activation, Red Bull will establish expanded video content for the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship by showcasing weekly highlight packages of the races on Servus TV, run by Red Bull Media House, as well as exclusive features on the nationals and Red Bull athletes on the brand’s digital platforms.

With four former Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Champions set to line up on the start gate this May, the anticipation for the 2012 season is at an all-time high. In addition to the premier 450 Class, the young superstars of the 250 Class and Women’s Motocross Championship are set to provide a high level of competition all summer long.

Bel-Ray Racing-Weekend Racing Wrap Up – January 31, 2012

Round 4 of the 2012 Monster Energy Supercross series took place on Saturday night, January 28th in Oakland, California. The 2012 racing season has been full of exciting action and Saturday’s event didn’t disappoint the crowd.

TwoTwo Motorsports/Bel-Ray Racing’s and winner of Round 3, Chad Reed, looked like he was going to continue his winning ways when he grabbed the holeshot in the main event. Reed led for the first half of the race until eventual race winner, James Stewart, got by. Reed kept Stewart in sight and continued to ride a smart race holding onto second place at the end of the race. Reed’s second place finish puts him into a tie for the points lead as the series heads south to Anaheim, California for Round 5.

Dodge/Hart & Huntington/Sycuan Casino/Bel-Ray Racing’s Josh Hansen scored another top 10 finish for the 4th round in a row. Fellow teammate Kyle Partridge qualified directly into the main event with a strong 6th place finish. Early in the main event, Partridge went down in a difficult section of the track and could not continue. He was credited with 20th place for the main event. Despite his 20th place finish in the main event, Partridge is 19th in the point’s standings.

Team Rockstar Energy Racing Suzuki team riders Martin Davalos and Jason Anderson provided a great deal of excitement on Saturday night. Davalos scored a confident 3rd place in his heat race while Anderson won the last chance qualifier for the second week in a row. Davalos took the holeshot in the main event and led early, while Anderson was coming through the field after a mid-pack start. Anderson was on a charge that brought him as high as 3rd before he was taken down in a corner by another rider. He was slow to remount and placed 12th by the end of the race. Davalos, allowed few riders to pass, giving up his lead, placing him 9th at the checkered flag. Both riders are in the top 15 in the series standings with Anderson in 7th and Davalos in 15th.

The series continues next Saturday night in Anaheim California for Round 5.
