The final day of Loretta Lynn area qualifying at Elizabeth City MX in Elizabeth City, North Carolina completed this past Sunday and MXPTV got photos of the exciting first motos that took place. Â Check out the brief photo report below and over 290 photos from the first motos at the Smugmug link below!
The start at Elizabeth City has to be one of the longest starts in country. Â With pure sand laying the way to the first sweeping right hand turn, you know that everyone’s bike was max’d out at least 4th gear into the corner. Â Here’s the start of the 1st 250 C Modified moto getting around the first bend, which isn’t even half way down the start.
Jamal Porter leads the start of the 1st 250 A moto of the day ahead of local pro Nick Hayes and the rest of the pack. Â See, the two stroke can still get it done!
Seth Rarick had a very successful Saturday winning 3 of his 4 motos. Â On Sunday, he was still up front but didn’t pull in as many wins. Â Still, Rarick has stepped it up for 2011 after battling with a long list of injuries.
MXPTV asked some 85cc (9-11) riders who was the rider to beat in their classes at Elizabeth City. Â Who was it? Â It was this fast kid, Justin Dunn. Â Dunn looked solid all weekend long at ECMX.
Keeping Justin Dunn honest in the (9-11) classes was River Hancock. Â He was on the gas all weekend long as well at ECMX.
The most exciting moto of the weekend had to be the 1st Schoolboy 2 moto. Â Cooper Webb lead the way on his Honda CRF250 as Paul Coats (777) and Nick Ferrell (14) were close behind.
As the Schoolboy 2 riders headed into the main portion of the track, Nick Ferrell went down in this corner and moved up the rest of the pack to follow close to Webb, including the very fast Joey Savatgy (176).
Once the 2nd lap was under way, Cooper Webb had Joey Savatgy on his rear for the first half of the moto.
Joey Savatgy kept gaining small ground on Cooper Webb throughout the 1st Schoolboy 2 moto at ECMX.
Joey Savatgy would end up getting by Cooper Webb midway through the moto but Webb did not give up a bit as he stayed on Savatgy throughout the moto. Â But in the final corner, Savatgy got held up with a lapper and Webb got by to take the moto win. Â Webb would sweep the Schoolboy 2 class as Savatgy stayed 2nd and it also showed that Webb is a serious threat on the 250f machines after years on the 150s.
Shooting at sand tracks like Elizabeth City is always intense. Â Racing it, however, has its drawbacks like this sandblasted shot here.
MTF’s Bryan Johnson cleaned house in the Junior 25 Plus class at Elizabeth City.
Josh Strickland leads Justin Rodbell in the 1st 65cc (7-11) Modified moto. Â Rodbell would get by and win the moto and the overall later in the day with a 1-1 sweep.
Justin Rodbell’s moto wins didn’t come easy as both Josh Strickland and Devin Kusmider were hounding the #58 machine each 65cc (7-11) Modified moto.
Paul Coates (777) and Joey Savatgy (176) lead the way for the 1st 250 B Modified moto at ECMX.
As Joey Savatgy went for the check out, the battle for 2nd was intense as Clout (192), Paul Coates (777), and Zach Bell (100) went at it.
After a mid pack start, Zach Bell came through the field on a mission as he got by Coates and Clout for 2nd in the moto.
Open A/Pro Sport – Moto 1 saw Nick Hayes grab the star over ECMX’s anthill with Josh Hall (125) and Bryan Johson (75) not far behind.
Josh Hall (125) and Seth Rarick (612) battle it out for 2nd during the Open A/Pro Sport 1st moto at ECMX. Â Rarick would get by and catch up to the race leader, Nick Hayes.
As Rarick was gaining time on Hayes, the 2 riders got together as lines crossed in a fast, wide corner in the back section. Â Both riders went down and the lead went to Josh Hall.
Josh Hall would inherit the lead after Rarick and Hayes got together. Â But Britt (421) was hard charging to the checkers as Hall held him off for the moto win.
That will do it from Elizabeth City! Â Thanks for checking out MXPTV!
