Swain Mountain MX finished their 3rd season promoting mx races and a few freestyle shows featuring Mad Mike Jones this last week-end. On Saturday there was a riding school put on by former AMA pro rider Sean Hamblin and WNYMA lifer Donnie Schmidt. Sunday was the big WNYMA race, but the talk of the day was centered around Jerome Krzemien and the fantastic job he and his Harley Rake did in clearing tons of rocks off of the mountainous mx track. Geology 101, when a mountain is made giant beds of rock become 1,000′s and 1,000′s of small, medium and large rocks. That Harley Rake turned back the pages of time and made the roostertails much more tolerable.

The racing highlight of the day was the free Vintage ['89 and older] Race at intermission sponsored by Ed Abdo / Northeast Cycle Service. Only 2 Vintage dirt bikes showed up, but they were beauties! Abdo broke out his 1976 [I think] YZ400 for Erick Lang to race on, but saved his very rare ROKON, complete with a pull cord start! Romour is this old Longhair is throwing a leg over the Rokon in a few weeks at the Vintage Race at Silver Springs… although that 450cc Combat Wombat of Abdo’s is looking tempting as well. It was great to see Bart Lucas and his better looking older brother Fred amongst other fast guys there racing on the mountain.

Sidenote: Swain got hit pretty good with about 3 to 4 hours of rain falling Saturday, forcing the cancellation of practice. So, when you look at these pics [all are from Sunday] keep that in mind.

Swain Mountain features adrenaline overload mountain biking, utilizing the chair lift to ferry riders and bikes to top of the mountain… and gravity does the rest!

Also, if your into flinging arrows, like I am… Swain Mountain has their 3rd annual Sportsmen’s Fest Show coming up next week-end featuring new & expanded 3D Wooded Archery Courses, Hunting & Fishing Dealers, Treestand Shootout, Primitive Camping, Seminars, Kids Activities, Live Music, and Ski Lift Rides. Swain’s slope side restaurant, The Shawmut Grille, will be serving burgers, wraps, wings, salads, and beverages throughout the weekend.
